Community for Creativity @ Peeples Elementary School

The Community for Creativity at Peeples ES launched in fall 2020 with an initial focus on creating classroom ecosystems where excellence and creativity merge. The pilot model spotlights and encourages creative problem solving in every class at every grade level. Through exploration and iteration, students in Grades K-5 will learn about themselves and the world around them.

Students develop foundational skills in storytelling, transformational uses of technology, engineering and design, and practice communicating and collaborating as they apply their knowledge to create new and original content connected to their personal interests.

CFC Initiatives at Peeples Elementary School:

Leader in Me - A whole school transformation process teaching 21st century leadership and life skills, creating a culture of student empowerment based on the idea that every child can be a leader. Students participate in monthly synergy squads, hold school-wide and classroom leadership roles, and direct and communicate their personal learning journey.

Project Lead the Way- Transformative learning experiences creating an engaging, hands-on classroom environment that empowers students to develop in-demand knowledge and skills they need to thrive in the fields of engineering, computer science, and biology. (Specifically focused at early childhood classrooms.)

Classroom Makerspaces/Engineering Centers- Providing hands-on, creative, social spaces where students meet to collaborate, design, communicate, and create a product. Creativity is part idea generation, part problem-solving, and in a makerspace or engineering center it culminates in a student-created product to demonstrate learning (digital or physical).

Storytelling Showcase- Opportunities for students to build effective communication skills through the telling of stories based in academic explorations, passion projects, and opportunities to solve a problem or fulfill a need within the community.

Academic Exploration- Teachers are encouraged to build a classroom environment that promotes creative thinking, embracing researched based strategies such as project based learning and arts integration.
